US History

Course Description

This course is developed to align with the California State Framework and will examine major turning points in American history in the 20th century, after a brief review of content learned in previous years. During the year the following themes are emphasized: the expanding role of the federal government; the continuing tension between the individual and the state and between minority rights and majority power; the emergence of a modern corporate economy; the impart of technology on American society and culture; change in the ethnic composition of the American society: the movements toward equal rights for racial minorities and women; and the role of the United States as a major power. In each unit students examine American culture, including religion, literature, architecture, education and the mass media. This class is required for graduation. This course meets UC/CSU (History-a) requirements.
